MUSIC LESSONS

Music is a powerful vibration and force that can be an intricate part of our well being. This is especially true for children. Playing music can:
  • help integrate physical coordination
  • connect our mental resources
  • inspire passion
  • help us become in harmony with spirit.
At Foundation of Family Values (FOFV) we support the musical expression of our members by offering piano and voice lessons at a discount through a professional with impeccable credentials.

Dr. Susan Snook-Luther

Susan Snook-Luther holds an M.A. in Performance Practice and a Ph.D. in Musicology from Stanford University, where she studied piano with Adolph Baller (accompanist to violinist Yehudi Menuhin). Her dissertation, published by Cambridge University Press, will soon be released in paperback. She has taught piano at Canada College, the University of Santa Clara, and the University of Wyoming, where she also did extensive accompanying for graduate students and other faculty members. She has also coached ensembles at the Humboldt State Chamber Music Workshop.

Since returning to the Bay Area, Dr. Snook-Luther has maintained an active studio of 30-40 students, who present formal recitals several times a year and also share their music less formally at nursing homes etc. Most students participate in the Spring Auditions of the American Guild of Piano Teachers, and several are active in Competitions sponsored by Youth Focus, where one of her students recently was awarded a Double Grand Championship (a perfect score from all judges).

Susan's Studio Motto is "Exploring Musical Paths; Sharing Musical Gifts". Piano students range in age from four years to adult, and from beginners to advanced players. Classical music is emphasized, but students are encouraged to try different musical styles, duet playing, theory and composition, and to recognize music as a gift to be shared.
